Snow is rare in Dubrovnik. It could be said that the snowfall is record once or twice a year, and snow that remains on the ground is even rarer. Since the snow arrives on the Adriatic with the bora, because then the cyclones are positioned south of the Adriatic, the occurrence of snow is more common in the north than in the south part of the Adriatic. However, when it does occur, snow in Dubrovnik usually comes in the form of a blizzard, when the storm is strong and the snow creates very unusual conditions in the Dubrovnik area. One such Dubrovnik blizzard struck on 18th of February 2009, and many photos from that day are in this gallery. Another notable blizzard was on 28th of March 1995, and a few photos from that day can be seen under the heading 'my old photos'.
